Cardiac Screening

Italy 1972. Introduction of routine cardiac screening by means of physical examination, family history, health questionnaire & 12 lead electrocardiograph for sports players.
Clinical studies have revealed Italy have shown an 89% reduction in sudden cardiovascular deaths in competitive athletes aged between 12 to 35 years old.

On average according to the american heart association 1 in 500 harbor the main reason for sudden cardiac arrest: Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy .

Ireland currently does not have a routine cardiac screening program in place which is of major concern to sports players, families, friends and loved ones.
According to the Irish Heart Foundation,on average 13 people die per day from sudden cardiovascular death.

They simply have not been given the statistics on sudden cardiovascular death and as to how to protect their loved ones.

Dr Heiko Kindler Consultant Cardiologist and Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Bon Secours Hospital is calling for a routine cardiac screening programme to identify hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
